WEATHERFORD, OK-NOVEMBER 22, 2019-Employees of Pioneer Telephone and Pioneer Cellular recently collected and donated more than 1,182 pounds of food to the Weatherford Food & Resource Center, an affiliate of the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma.
“It has become a tradition for our employees to come together and support fellow Oklahomans during the time of year that food donations are needed more than ever,” said Dean Carter, Department Manager. “Pioneer has always remained community-minded and our employees are committed to helping others, in times of need.”
Each year, employees are encouraged to bring two or more food items to Pioneer’s all-employee meeting, held at the company’s headquarters in Kingfisher, OK.
Since starting the tradition in 2016, Pioneer employees have donated more than 4,820 pounds of food to the Food & Resource center, which ultimately provided over 4,000 meals to families in need in the Pioneer service area. The Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma, a member of the Feeding America network of Food Banks, is the largest hunger-relief charity in the state-providing enough food to feed more than 136,000 hungry Oklahomans every week, 37 percent of whom are children. Oklahoma consistently ranks among the hungriest states in the nation. One in four children and one in six adults has inconsistent access to healthy food.
